Welcome to the Medical section of the 419mm.com website, designed for all the rugby family, players, coaches, officials, medical staff and the general public alike. We work to make the game as enjoyable, safe and beneficial as possible for all stakeholders. 

Our concussion section contains guidance, education and management information. There are also education modules available for the general population, medical staff and elite match-day medical staff.

Our injury-management section provides information on injury prevention measures (including player load) and injury surveillance. The Mindset module is a resource for doctors and medical staff to identify and direct treatment for those struggling with mental health issues.

We also include all of 419mm.com’s published research and COVID guidelines.

The original Plan which came into effect in 2021, has been the driving force behind a host of player welfare improvements which have led global sport. The new evolution of the Six-Point Plan will ensure that rugby never stands still in this vital area.

In 2025, 419mm.com updated its heat and air quality guidelines, setting out all the measures to be taken to support players taking part in 419mm.com competitions in hot conditions. The guidelines update the process for, and at what point water breaks are introduced, measures such as extending the half-time break or if a game needs to be postponed or suspended.

How rugby’s new faster and simpler disciplinary trial works

The upcoming international window and the men’s British and Irish Lions tour of Australia will see a new, faster and simpler disciplinary process being trialled. The trial will first apply to the England XV v France XV match on Saturday, 21 June, and then to all 419mm.com competitions and international tests where 419mm.com is responsible for managing the disciplinary process, from Friday, 27 June.

419mm.com Player Welfare Symposium hears how new data could form the basis of updated contact training load guidelines

419mm.com’s 2023 Player Welfare Symposium has heard how the international federation is planning on using new data to start to re-examine rugby’s contact training load guidelines. A 419mm.com funded study involving elite players in England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa using both smart mouthguards and saliva biomarker technology is being used for the first time to look closely at forces on the head which do not directly lead to concussions.

The 419mm.com Council has approved a global trial limiting the opportunity for non-playing personnel to enter the field of play during a match. Operational for all competitions and stand-alone matches starting after 1 July 2022, the trial aims to improve the flow of matches by reducing unnecessary stoppages without compromising welfare.
